Description

1937 Bank of Canada $100 Banknote – BC-27c AU (Osborne-Towers Signatures)

The 1937 $100 Bank of Canada banknote (BC-27c) is a classic and highly collectible piece of Canadian currency, especially in AU (About Uncirculated) condition. Bearing the Osborne-Towers signature combination, this note comes from Canada’s second series of banknotes, introduced to replace the original 1935 issue and standardize bilingual text on both sides.

The front of the note features a striking portrait of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada’s first Prime Minister, depicted with fine detail and depth. The dominant dark purple-brown color adds a sense of sophistication, while intricate line work and vivid engraving showcase the craftsmanship of the Canadian Bank Note Company.

On the reverse, an allegorical image titled Commerce symbolizes Canada’s economic strength and development. The design reflects the Art Deco influence of the era, offering historical and artistic value.

In AU condition, this note retains nearly all of its original crispness, color, and detail, with only slight signs of handling that prevent it from achieving full UNC status. With its low print numbers and early issuance date, the 1937 $100 BC-27c is a rare find and a cornerstone for any advanced Canadian banknote collection.
